Burlesque, Bands and Volkswagens

One of the things I love about photography is the places it will take you if you let it. I had the opportunity to attend a festival called "Dubs of Anarchy" this weekend and it was great. In my younger day's I used to own a Volkswagen camper (a 1978 type 2 called Myrtle if you're interested) and always loved the VW scene. So when I was asked if I wanted to spend the weekend at a VW festival and take photos of a burlesque show, I gave it maybe 2 or 3 nanoseconds before agreeing.

How I celebrated World Photo Day

Commuter town

I live in a very interesting city in the UK - Portsmouth (the second most densely populated city in England for the fact fans out there). As you probably already know, it's a coastal city and spend an inordinate amount of time taking photos on and around it's beaches. Sometimes though I like to turn my back on the water, leave the tripod at home and take photo's of the bustling city itself.

Three different views, one composistion

This morning, I met up with my friend Howard to take photo's of South Parade pier on the sea front in Southsea. I was feeling lazy (I didn't have a good nights sleep) and didn't want to move around too much. I know that goes against all my own best practices and I would be tutting and frowning at anyone else not experimenting with different compositions but it is what it is.

I was sitting in my flat after cleaning my lens and camera for a wedding I'm shooting tomorrow and the relative quiet of a Friday afternoon in Southsea's Albert road was shattered by the sound of the Red Arrows flying overhead. I'm assuming they're there for the Americas Cup racing and didn't just fancy a day at the seaside.
